I was watching a reality show on TV last night that showed auditions
for dancers. The show is called something like "So You Think You
Can Dance." It
is the "American Idol" of the dance world. I really get into things
I enjoy so I laughed and clapped. Laughed at some really, really bad acts and
clapped at some really, really beautiful dancing. What struck me the most was
the expression of Harmony.
Beauty and harmony were achieved when the dancer had an absolute
commitment to the dance. His/her body responded to the discipline
that the dancer committed to his/her craft. The muscles of the body
beautifully expressed an attunement that was both physical and spiritual.
The dancer was totally present to the experience in the here and
now. When harmony was achieved it was beautiful. When it wasn't,
it was so evident.
We can look at our life's purpose as achieving harmony with the
authentic expression of the Christ that we are. Every class that
we have here at Unity, no matter what the original intent, is to
become "aware" - "awake" as the Buddha said
and to make our decisions and our actions from that place of authentic "beingness".
Our purpose is to craft our soul experience with the tools (strength,
love, life, creativity, etc.) that lie at the core of our being
- to be attuned, in harmony with that pattern of divinity that is
ready to unfold as our dance.
How do we achieve that harmony?
Commitment - Is this in alignment with my Christ purpose? Is this
life-affirming? Is this love-affirming? If not, can I let it go
and reach out for life in a different way. Can I open myself again
and again to listening and acting from this center of truth even
when my "muscles ache"
Authenticity - Is this coming from my authentic self or am I trying
to get approval of the judges by "dancing their way - to their
music" and ignoring my music. Do I respond to life from an
illusion of "not enough" or do I respond from an expansiveness
that is limitless. Can I stretch out of my comfort zone into a "newness
of being" that crafts something with beauty and grace.
Being Present/Letting Go - Can I listen to that small voice inside
and become so present, so attuned to spirit that it is the dancing
that matters and not the results.
So turn on the music and let yourself listen to spirit. Open your
arms wide, smile, turn and move out into Christ Consciousness. Have
fun. Dance. Be happy.
