"Waiting patiently in expectation is the foundation of the spiritual life." Simone Weil

"There is nothing instant or automatic in spiritual development." Alan Jones

I shared with you recently that so many of us (me included) in the words of Sue Monk Kidd, are typical quickaholics. We soooo want to press the 'easy button', take a nap and wakeup with all our challenges 'fixed'.

I love the invitation that Sue Monk Kidd gives us in her book, "When the Heart Waits." I was re-reading it and came across the thought that God is not merely a rescuer, but a mid-wife.

We seem to be faced with so many challenges and 'needs' that we want to be fixed NOW. Worry has become an addictive process, and Anne Wilson Schaef maintains that addictive behavior "keeps us unaware of what is going on inside us." In this time of 'challenge and change', let's remember the words of Thomas Merton. "Our commitment is to become a 'completely new person'. The imagination should be allowed a certain amount of time to browse around."

Our journey is a birthing process. What is "going on inside of us" is the birthing of a God-Consciousness. Our waiting is the "seedbed of creativity and growth that allows us to do the daring and to break through to newness." We seem to pay so little attention to this "seedbed of divine life within us". God is calling us to this "spiritual experience of soul-making". Our true self wants to bloom and grow. And our 'patient' God "enters into the experience" with us - Is birthed and births us.

So, don't worry if the line at the bank doesn't move. Don't worry if solutions don't happen quickly, and we might have to look at the 'facts' with a waiting consciousness. Look around while you are waiting and enjoy the scenery or if you are not enjoying the experience, know that it is part of the cocoon you are weaving while you grow enough to fly. And you will fly. In time.
